SHORT COURSE: REMDO
Registration Online Refrigeration Equipment Modelling, Design & Optimisation
A Short course on Refrigeration and Equipment Modelling, Design and Optimisation is held every year at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain, by the IMST group.
The course is first focused on providing a detailed introduction to the modelling of each of the main components of a vapour compression system, with special emphasis in accurate evaluation of their performance, as well as to the modelling of the complete system. Then, the course focuses on providing a deep insight into, first how to pre-size a system, then how to select and size the main components of the system and, finally, how to optimise its design and operation parameters.
The course is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced design engineers and it is an excellent opportunity to boost your skills in analysis and design of Refrigeration equipment and components.
It is ideal if you are in the get-in process using IMST-ART or if you are evaluating it. It will give you a good outlook about all its capabilities, and about how to get the maximum from it on your daily work.
If the dates, location or duration of the courses do not suit your company needs, we can offer Training at your own office location. With this solution we can adjust the training to your requirements and bring your own applications into discussion. Please contact us for details.

Subject: REMDO Short Course
Whom is it addressed to?
The course is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced design engineers and it would be an excellent opportunity to boost your skills in analysis and design of Refrigeration equipment and components.
The Software IMST-ART is employed all along the course to simulate components an systems. Therefore, it should be ideal if you are in the get-in process using IMST-ART or if you are evaluating it. It will give you a good outlook about all its capabilities, and about how to get the maximum from it on your daily work on refrigeration equipment design, analysis and optimisation.
Suitable background for the course is only Fundamentals on Thermodynamics and Refrigeration.
Course program
The course is first focused on providing a detailed introduction to the modelling of each of the main components of a vapour compression system, with special emphasis in accurate evaluation of their performance, as well as to the modelling of the complete system. Then, the course focus on providing a deep insight into how to first pre-size a system, then select and size the main components of the system and, finally how to optimise its design and operation parameters. Special emphasis is put on performing practical design and optimisation studies of typical Refrigeration and Air Conditioning systems and how to analyse what is happening inside the system in order to solve design or operation problems.
The course consists of the following basic modules:
- Introduction: refrigeration cycles and components
- Compressor modelling
- Heat Exchangers (HE) modelling
- Evaporator modelling: tube and fin coils and plate HEs
- Condensers modelling: tube and fin coils, plate HEs and shell and tube
- Refrigerant properties evaluation
- Expansion device (ED) modelling
- Constant superheat
- Short tube
- Capillary tube
- Modelling of other components
- piping
- accessories
- liquid receiver
- liquid to suction heat exchanger
- 4-way valve
- System model I: Well posed problem: charge inventory vs. subcooling, superheat vs. expansion device model, …
- System model II
